Hey guess what? I do my yard duty in front of school in the mornings. It is now December and some parents still insist in dropping off their children inside where the buses go and the teachers park. This is hazardous to the students so now when I catch people doing this, I am going to photograph them and post them here. I might even left Sunnyvale Public Safety know too. If you want to know where this is coming from, I got really "dissed" by a mom who was using the lot to cut ahead of the traffic. So if you see a friend's car in this space, let them know.

Thanksgiving Extra Credit Opportunity. If you have the chance to go some where that is educational over the holiday, especially with your family, bring evidence of your outing to me such as a receipt, or a brochure, or a picture and I will give you extra credit (5 points). The catch is that it has to be related to Science or History. It can be free such as biking around the salt ponds/wetlands near Alviso or cheap such as hiking at a state, county, or national park(they usually charge some for parking). I am the final arbiter of whether it counts but I am fairly liberal. However, watching the Discovery Channel, visiting Disneyland, or seeing a play or art museum will not get the extra credit (But heh, have fun anyway).

How to make a difference.
I am starting my candy collection drive for the organization called Adopt a Chaplain. I will be collecting candy from Halloween to Thanksgiving. This organization sends it directly to chaplains of all denominations who are directly with the troops who are in harms way. Chaplains use the candy (and other items like toiletries) to reach out to their troops. I told the students that it is sometimes hard for a 19 year old to ask for help or to go to talk with someone about their fears but if the chaplain has candy or is having a pancake breakfast, the soldiers have an excuse to go talk to someone. The candy creates an entry for the soldier.

Once I take the candy to the organization, it is "in country" with in a week.

I also talked about how students can make a difference in the lives of someone they do not know and how that makes them feel good and how that helps the community of Sunnyvale as a whole.

Last year SMS donated 150 pounds.

What I did this Summer

I went to Seattle and had dinner at the top of the tallest building.
I went canoeing on the Russian River and saw two sets of 4th of July fireworks.
I went to the Charles M. Schulz museum in Santa Rosa.
I saw the musical "Wicked" in San Francisco.
I visited Alcatraz with my in-laws.
I saw Harry Potter (and 3 old movies from Netflix).
I went hiking to Bumpass Hell in Lassen Volcanic National Park.
I visited the Plumas County Fair and bought some gold.
I stopped by the Jelly Belly factory and bought some tangerine flavored Jelly Bellies.
I water skied at Lake Almanor and taught one of my daughters to single ski.
I read six books and picked 2 bags of apples.
I bought 13 doors for my house.
I took one of my daughters to graduate school so she could start her student teaching.
I painted 14 chariots with horses and riders for a chariot racing game.
I rode the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and ate corn dogs after.
