Agenda Thursday September 28
1 Check J17 CH2 Pre Reading
2 Activity Heterogeneous to Homogeneous mixtures
3 Make up test day today after school
4 CH1 Test on Scientific Method etc tomorrow
Here is a puzzle. If I bought an iPod and it is now non updateable (obsolete) and they didn't tell me that it would be non updatetable when I bought it, should I get my money back? How is it that I can still use an record player but not a more current working device?
Here is a not dissimilar puzzle. Student testing is done by computer so that the students are given harder questions as they get more correct. As a result, test scores are flattening. "Experts" are saying that in order for students to improve on the tests, they will need to be taught in a different manner, that we may need to redo they way we teach teachers to teach, and that teachers with 20 years experience may not be able to teach students in the ways they need to be taught to do better on the tests. [an aside is that I noticed there was no mention of removing the high stakes testing]. So when I got my credential, I wasn't told I would be nonupdateable.

Agenda Friday September 22 Autumnal Equinox
There is a definite chill in the air in the Santa Cruz Mountains (where I live).
1 Test CH 1 Measurement
The district has still not correctly sorted the standards for our computer system so it will be much longer that expected to get our grades done. Once the district has done their job, I will have over 6000 data points to enter so don't throw anything away. This will take awhile unless we are given coverage to accomplish this task.

Today is a teacher inservice day. A very interesting irony between the morning and afternoon sessions
Also, today was a good day to shadow at another school. Do not miss a school day when there are inservice days you can use.

Back to school Night:
Read this article:

then
Watch this video about Don't Eat the Marshmallow

Three assignments for parents
1 Keep them healthy. If they miss school they will miss out and fall behind. Make up work is not the same. No really, it isn't
2 Keep them here. No trips during school. See number 1 for reasons.
3 Give them food and a place to work at home. The brain runs on burning the food we eat. They are growing and need a lot of good nutritious food (not junk food). A consistent place to work makes the brain engage more readily. I could tell you stories.

Agenda September 5 Tuesday
1 Check WS Metric Mania Length and WS Length Lab
2 Activity: Metric Measuring Length
With one hurricane gone and one on the way it is a great time to be a meteorologist (it might not be a good time to be along the coast of the Southeastern U.S.). I was working with my brother in law (the meteorologist) this weekend to set up a weather station in Santa Rosa. If we ever get the station and the computer to talk to each other and patch up their differences, I will post info about this station. Maybe even a web cam. If I can get the Santa Rosa Station going, I have a perfect location for a SMS station.
